Authorities are searching for a burglary suspect who allegedly stole a marked police vehicle Wednesday and struck a police officer as he drove away.

New Brunswick officers responding to a reported burglary in progress on Baldwin Street saw two men running away, police said. One of them was soon captured, but the other led officers on a foot chase through several yards before he got in the police vehicle that was parked on a nearby street, police said.

An officer there was struck as the suspect drove off, authorities said. The officer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

The police vehicle was found abandoned a short time later.

The man captured at the scene faces numerous counts including burglary, eluding and conspiracy to commit attempted murder. The man accused of stealing the police car remains at large.
