Dozens of Troops Return to NJ After Year in Afghanistan

They said the homecoming was the best holiday gift they could ask for

Dozens of National Guard members who spent the last year in Afghanistan are finally back with their families in New Jersey.

More than 60 members of the 119th Combat Service Support Battalion were welcomed home by family and friends at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Tuesday evening.

While the holidays have passed, everyone agreed coming home was the best gift they could have asked for.

"It was a long year, but I'm glad to be home," said soldier Jeff Johnson. "Very glad to be home."

Many of the families said their first order of business was to get home and celebrate Christmas.
