No Bail for Housekeeper Accused of Kidnapping Baby

Police say defendant took child because family of 13 "has so many children that they just don't have time for her."

A Nassau County judge has ordered a housekeeper held without bail on charges that she kidnapped her former employers' 5-month-old daughter.

Fifty-five-year-old Gloria Suarez was being jailed Thursday on kidnapping, child endangerment and other charges, reports Newsday.

Police say Suarez took the child on Wednesday because the family of 13 has "so many children that they just don't have time for her,'' according to a statement the housekeeper gave to police that was included in court records.

Authorities say she planned to take the baby out of the county -- perhaps as far away as her native Uruguay.

Suarez was arrested within hours of taking the infant.

Yolanda Guerra, Suarez's court-appointed attorney, says the housekeeper denies the allegations.
