Brooklyn Teen's Body Recovered from Upstate River

Divers have recovered the body of an 18-year-old Brooklyn man who drowned in the Delaware River in upstate New York.

Authorities tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown that Daniel Rak was trying to swim across the river in an area with strong currents when he went missing Wednesday evening near the Ten Mile River Scout Camps in Narrowsburg, where he was an assistant scout leader.

Sullivan Undersheriff Eric Chaboty says Rak's companions described him having trouble and sinking under the water.

During the search Thursday, a fire department boat from Westfall, Pa., sank and other rescuers rushed to aid the crew.

The camps are owned by the Greater New York Councils of the Boy Scouts of America. They're on the Pennsylvania border about 90 miles northwest of New York City.
