NYPD Sergeant Arrests 2 Suspects Where He Was Shot Last Year

Sgt. Kevin Brennan, who survived a shooting at a Brooklyn housing project on Jan. 31, 2012, made two gun arrests at the same location Tuesday

An NYPD sergeant who survived a bullet to the head while chasing a suspect in Brooklyn last year arrested two men on criminal gun charges in the same housing complex where he was shot, police say.

Sgt. Kevin Brennan said Tuesday he had just finished walking prosecutors through the scene in Bushwick where he was shot last January during a struggle with an armed suspect when his old partner, Officer Michael Burbridge, spotted two men wanted for armed robbery.

Brennan says he and his former partner approached the men and noticed one of them was hiding something and shielding his body against a fence.

Brennan says he searched the man and found a 9 mm handgun in his waistband. The suspects were arrested on robbery and weapons charges.

The two officers were preparing for Brennan's upcoming trial.

Brennan was shot in the head at close range on Jan. 31, 2012, while responding to a report of gunshots fired at the housing project. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly called Brennan "one lucky young man" for surviving the bullet, which struck him at the base of his skull. The gunman in that case was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.
