Off-Duty NYPD Officer Dies in Crash on Long Island Parkway

Officer Joseph Capo, 27, was killed in a crash on the Southern State Parkway in North Massapequa

State police say an off-duty New York City police officer has died in a car crash on Long Island.

Police say Officer Joseph Capo was driving eastbound on the Southern State Parkway in North Massapequa shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday.

Capo apparently lost control of his 2004 Volkswagen and collided with a 2001 Cadillac.

Capo's vehicle then flipped several times. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The 27-year-old officer was assigned to Manhattan's 9th Precinct.

The driver of the Cadillac was identified as Laurine Noble of Deer Park. She was treated for minor injuries.

State police said they are seeking anyone who may have witnessed the accident.
