On-Duty MTA Bus Driver Arrested for DWI: Police

An on-duty city bus driver was charged with driving while intoxicated after passengers told police he was driving erratically before hitting something, police say.

Lenny Lachman, 24, was driving the B82 bus with nine passengers around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in Brooklyn, the NYPD said.

Passengers called authorities after the bus came in contact with parked cars on Flatlands Avenue and East 46th Street, police said. No one was injured.

Responding officers found the driver displaying signs of intoxication and tested his blood alcohol level, finding it above legal limits, the NYPD said.

He was charged with DWI and reckless driving. Attorney information wasn't immediately available.

The MTA said it has "absolutely zero-tolerance" for the driver's alleged actions.

"This bus operator has been removed from service immediately without pay and we are working with NYPD to ensure a thorough investigation is carried out.”

He was hired in 2017, officials said.
