2 NYPD Cops on Modified Duty After Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Brooklyn

Two NYPD officers have been placed on modified assignment as authorities investigate a fatal motorcycle crash in Brooklyn Saturday.

Police said a 29-year-old man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Parkside Avenue in the area of Park Circle just after 1 a.m., and he tried to slip in between a van -- which was traveling in the same direction on Parkside Avenue -- and several parked cars.

The motorcyclist ended up hitting the parked cars and the moving van, and was thrown from the bike, police said. Responding officers found him unconscious and unresponsive on the street, and he was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the van stayed on the scene.

It's not clear how a police chase factored into the crash. The NYPD only said an investigation by its Collision Investigation Squad led to the two officers from the 70th Precinct being placed on modified assignment "pending further investigation into issues involving the department's policy relating to vehicle pursuits."
