A wild chase and shooting on the FDR Drive in Manhattan left two officers hospitalized and part of the roadway shut down for hours as police searched for the suspect.
Officers were investigating a report of gunshots fired on East 96th Street and Second Avenue Thursday night and tried to pull over a vehicle matching the suspect's description on the FDR Drive at East 15th Street, police sources said.
The driver backed up and hit the officers' patrol car, then took off, sparking a police pursuit, the sources said.
Police then fired shots at the vehicle, which took off and was later found abandoned near East Houston Street, where the suspect apparently fled on foot and hasn't been seen since. The car was a BMW with New York plates and and does not appear to be stolen, cops said.
No one was injured when the gunfire rang out.
The FDR Drive was shut down for hours on the southbound side south of 23rd Street as police investigated; it has since reopened. Drivers faced delays in the area.

An officer in the car hit by the suspect was taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor neck and arm injuries and is expected to be OK, police said. He was later treated and released. A second officer was treated at an area hospital for tinnitus and was also later released.
The NYPD says as of Friday morning there is no sign of the driver of that chase. There have been no arrests and no description of a suspect has been released. However, authorities say they do not believe there's any threat to the area.
The investigation is ongoing.
