Snow Way! NYPD Commissioner Crashes in Brooklyn

Slick roads may be to blame

An NYPD vehicle carrying Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly was involved in a three-car accident in Bay Ridge Wednesday night.

The accident started when a sedan cut off a van, which fish-tailed into a snow embankment along the Belt Parkway, says Deputy Commissioner Paul J. Browne.

The driver of Kelly's Ford Expedition braked, but slid into the van near the 65th Street Exit. A livery cab then crashed into the rear driver's side of the NYPD vehicle.

NYPD and FDNY responded to the scene. Everyone involved refused medical attention.

The vehicles were traveling at approximately 40 mph when the accident occurred. None of the airbags deployed in any of the vehicles.

The livery cab had minor damage and was driven away by the operator. The van wouldn't start and was towed. The NYPD vehicle was driven from scene.
