After a chilly start to Monday, with temperatures in the 20s and 30s in most parts of the tri-state area, the mercury is expected to rebound and approach the 70-degree mark by mid-week, according to Storm Team 4.

A freeze warning was in effect for most suburban counties Monday morning as some of the coldest temperatures this season blanketed the New York City metro. The five boroughs managed to avoid the freeze but commuters donned heavy coats and hoods during the morning rush.

Some hats and gloves may come off Monday afternoon, as temperatures rise into the low 50s and the sun comes out. It will be in the mid-40s Monday night.

The real warm-up comes Tuesday, when highs are expected to reach the upper 60s, Storm Team 4 says. The milder weather should carry on through Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures forecast to jump to the low 70s on both days.

Temperatures will likely drop on Friday to the high 50s, before bumping back up again to the low-to-mid-60s on Saturday and Sunday.

It's expected to be sunny most of the week, although some clouds may form on the warmer days, particularly Thursday, when a few sprinkles are also possible.
