NYC Almost All Caught Up on Trash Collection After Blizzard

New York City's sanitation department says it's almost all caught up on trash collection after the blizzard two weekends ago.

Garbage collection was suspended after the storm as sanitation crews worked on plowing and clearing the streets of snow, leaving more than 40,000 tons of trash and 8,000 tons of recycling to pile up.

"We have been chasing that material since last Thursday as 10,500 tons more of trash and 2,000 tons more of recycling each day make their way onto those same streets," said Belina Mager, spokeswoman for the Department of Sanitation. "We are almost all caught up."

Forty-three calls were placed to 311 citywide Wednesday for missed trash collection, Mager said. Of those, three calls were from Manhattan.
