Tractor-Trailer Accident in the Bronx Causes 2-Hour Delays on GWB

A tractor-trailer accident in the Bronx was causing serious delays for commuters driving into New York City over the George Washington Bridge on Thursday morning.

Inbound, upper level traffic was backed up for two hours at 7 a.m. after two tractor trailers got into an accident on the Cross Bronx Expressway near Jerome Avenue. Inbound, lower level traffic was experiencing 60-minute delays or more.

Only one eastbound lane was getting by on the Cross Bronx Expressway -- at times traffic was completely stopped.

A police stop a little to the west of the tractor-trailer accident wasn’t helping eastbound Expressway traffic. Only the left lane was getting by.

The accident had been cleared and the police stop had ended by 6:40 a.m. but extensive residual delays continued. NJ Transit warned of bus delays.

Delays were also reported at the Holland and Lincoln tunnels.
