NYPD: Teen Recants Account of Fighting off Would-Be Rapist in Brooklyn Bathroom

UPDATE: Police say the girl has recanted her account of the attack described below.

A 17-year-old girl was nearly raped by a man in a Brooklyn park bathroom earlier this week but was able to fight off her attacker, police said.

The girl was in Carver Playground in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Monday afternoon when the man tried talking with her. She ignored his advances but he persisted, asking her name and how she was doing.

She eventually took refuge in the playground bathroom but he waited outside it and eventually started knocking on the door. When she opened it, he suggested that she wanted him to come in and he forced his way inside.

That's when police say he tore off the teen's shirt and bra before trying to get her to perform oral sex on him. During a struggle, he punched and scratched her repeatedly.

She was able to punch him in the eye and push him off. She took off out of the bathroom and sought help at the Howard Deli Mart on Howard Avenue.

The suspect was able to get away with the girl's iPhone and bra.
