NYC Shouldn't Pay More for MTA Budget: Council Members

Two New York council members say the city shouldn't need to pay any more than what's already been allotted to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said New York City should be paying about $3.2 billion. But Council Members Ydanis Rodriguez and Julissa Ferreras said in a letter Tuesday the city shouldn't pay more than $657 million.

The gap has sparked a fight between Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Rodriguez and Ferreras say the request would leave New York city residents paying more than their "fair share."

MTA spokesman Adam Lisberg says the city should be contributing more. He says more than 90 percent of all MTA riders are in New York City.
