Police are looking for a man who they say shoplifted from a shoe store and then got into a fight with officers when they tried to arrest him, leaving both of them in the hospital.
Officers responded to a call of a shoplifter at DSW Shoes at 40 E. 14th St. When they arrived they talked with store officials who said the suspected attempted to steal several items from the store.
Officers went to arrest the suspect when he began fighting with them, police said. The man punched one of the officers in the face as he continued to struggle with the two of them.
At one point the fight got so intense that the officers and the man fell into one of the clothing racks, police said. The suspect was able to get to his feet and took off, according to police.
The two officers were taken to Lenox Hospital. One of them had bruising to the face and the other was injured after falling on top of the rack.
