Sorry, Kids: NYC Public Schools Are Open Tuesday

Project Read and all field trips requiring yellow buses will be cancelled

What to Know

  • New York City Public Schools are open Tuesday
  • More than 200 other schools around the tri-state area are closed or delayed Tuesday
  • Two to 4 inches of snow is expected in the five boroughs before the flurries begin to turn over to rain by Tuesday night

New York City Public Schools will be open Tuesday amid a winter storm that could drop several inches of snow in the city.

The announcement was made on Twitter Tuesday morning just before the first flakes were expected to fall in the five boroughs.

Afterschool, adult education, PSAL, and YABC programs will also be open. Project Read and all field trips requiring yellow buses will be cancelled, however.

More than 200 other schools around the tri-state area are also closed or delayed Tuesday. Click here to check your district.

The wintry mix lifts north through the rest of the morning and afternoon hours, and it will all change over to plain rain Tuesday night for most areas. But a prolonged period of sleet and freezing rain will make travel difficult on any untreated roads. Click here for the full details on the forecast.
