City Preps for Crush of Thanksgiving Travel

Holiday travelers are flocking to New York City airports and taking to the roads ahead of the Thanksgiving weekend.

Experts say fewer people are likely to travel this year, even though gas prices have dipped in recent days.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says it will open a new welcome center Wednesday at La Guardia Airport to assist arriving passengers.

The agency estimates that more than 1.35 million passengers will use airports this year. Millions more will likely use its tunnels, bridges and terminals.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it will add extra getaway service Wednesday for Long Island Rail Road commuters.

The American Automobile Association has said that it expects Thanksgiving travel to drop somewhat this year.
