2 Cars Hit Man at Bronx Intersection, Killing Him: Police

Two drivers hit a man as he was crossing a street in the Bronx Monday night, killing him, police say.

David Pajarito-Mendez, 38, was walking near 162nd Street and Courtlandt Avenue in Morrisania around 9:30 p.m. when video shows him swaying, stumbling and then falling in the middle of East 162nd Street, police said.

Then someone driving a sedan runs over Pajarito-Mendez, the surveillance footage shows. Then an SUV turns the corner and hits him, too.

Neither of the vehicles stopped after hitting the man.

Pajarito-Mendez was found in the middle of the road with injuries to his head and body, and EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

A police investigation is ongoing. The NYPD said it's on the lookout for a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee that they believe is behind the hit-and-run.

Shaken residents say they've had close calls of their own at the intersection.

"This is a real busy intersection here and it's very dangerous," said a neighbor named Rick. "I do believe they need some lights here."

"It's scary, to tell you the truth," said David Martinez. "To have someone getting killed like that and no one knows what happened."
