Off-Duty NYPD Officer Stabbed by Woman in Queens: Police

An off-duty NYPD officer was stabbed Friday in Queens, police said.

A woman stabbed the 50-year-old female officer at 193rd Street and Union Turnpike in the Fresh Meadows neighborhood, according to police.

The stabbing happened as the officer was walking her dog in Cunningham Park. As she was going into a bathroom, the suspect allegedly tried to grab her pocketbook. As the two struggled, the officer was apparently cut in the face by a pair of scissors, according to police.

The officer suffered slashes to her cheek and neck. Her wounds appear to be non-life-threatening, police said. She was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.

A park employee witnessed the struggle and was able to provide a description of the suspect, who was caught nearby. The suspect was arrested and taken to the 107th precinct.

A pair of scissors were found near the scene. Police are still searching for more evidence.

The injured officer is a 14-year veteran of the force and works in southern Manhattan.
