Man Gets Life Term, No Parole in Deadly Staten Island Home Invasion

A man suspected of burglarizing a Staten Island home and stabbing the owners when they interrupted him has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Dante Viggiano was convicted last month of murdering 67-year-old Peter Gialluisi and stabbing Gialluisi's wife, Vincenza, in the couple's Huguenot home in August 2014.

The 21-year-old Great Kills man was sentenced on Staten Island Thursday to serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors have said the couple found Viggiano in their home. He attacked them with a kitchen knife before running out the door. Gialluisi was stabbed in the face and hand and later pronounced dead. His now-67-year-old wife survived being stabbed in the head, neck and back.

Viggiano's lawyer Eric Nelson said his client plans to appeal.
