Man Takes off in Woman's Motorized Wheelchair in Brooklyn: NYPD

Police are looking for the man who drove away in a woman’s motorized wheelchair in Brooklyn.

The suspect walked up to the unoccupied wheelchair Saturday afternoon near 86th Street and West 12th Street in Gravesend.

Police say he then hopped on board and accelerated away from the scene, traveling down the sidewalk in an unknown direction.

The 36-year-old woman who owns the wheelchair, Margaret Leon, was not harmed. While being interviewed by NBC 4 New York on Wednesday, she said she got a call from her boss offering to replace the wheelchair with his own money.

"That's the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me," she said. "Just being able to get around to work and doctors' appointments is all I need."

She said she's never going to leave her new wheelchair unattended.

The NYPD released images of a suspect on Wednesday and asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
