Intoxicated Driver Dies in Police Custody: NYPD

Police say an intoxicated driver who crashed his car in Brooklyn has died in police custody.

Serge Duthley, 28, had been arrested on drunken driving charges following the wreck on Avenue J just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday. No injuries were reported.

Police say the driver was sent to an Intoxicated Driver Testing Unit at the 78th Precinct and then transported to the 69th Precinct in Canarsie for processing.

He was later found unconscious inside a cell area at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Duthley was taken to Brooklyn Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner is to determine the exact cause of death.
