Health Department Shutters Bronx Day Care During Investigation Into Violations

A day care in the Bronx has been closed by the city over serious violations, according to the Health Department.

The Philip H. Michaels Child Development Center was shuttered after an inspection uncovered several serious violations, including inadequate child supervision and lack of an on-site education director, the department said.

There are 209 children enrolled at the day care, including 115 pre-k students.

“The safety of our children is our highest priority, and we close a center immediately if we find any conditions that could pose a danger to them,” the Health Department said in a statement.

Staff from the Health Department, Education Department and Administration for Children’s Services were at the day care Wednesday working with families to find alternative child care.

The Health Department investigation is ongoing.
