Hour-Long Delays on George Washington Bridge for Third Consecutive Day

Late-running roadwork on the eastbound side of the Cross Bronx Expressway backed up inbound traffic on the George Washington Bridge for the second morning in a row Friday, marking the third straight day of delays on the span.

The upper level of the GWB was experiencing up to 90-minute delays at 6:45 a.m. The lower level was experiencing about 60-minute delays.

First 4 Traffic said Friday's delays were the worst this week. Roadwork on the Cross Bronx Expressway was to blame. Two lanes were shut down eastbound at Webster Avenue and traffic was backing up all morning.

Drivers were advised to head to the Lincoln or Holland tunnels, which were experiencing 20-to-30-minute delays.

The delays come a day after an accident and late-running construction on the eastbound Cross Bronx Expressway caused delays of more than an hour crossing the GWB. There were also extensive delays on Wednesday because of two accidents.
