NYC Fireworks Location Shifted Due to Rip Current

The show, which will continue to be centered near the Brooklyn Bridge, will now take place slightly south because a barge will be repositioned

The location of New York City's July 4 fireworks show on the East River shifted slightly shortly before the show was set to begin, Macy's announced Friday, due to a high rip current.

The show, which will continue to be centered near the Brooklyn Bridge, will now take place slightly south because a barge will be repositioned, the retailer said.

"While the weather has cleared for tonight's Macy's Fireworks display, due to an expected high rip current, the Macy's Fireworks barge previously set to be positioned between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges will be repositioned south of the Brooklyn Bridge for the event," Macy's said in a statement. "This is being done out of an abundance of caution."
