30 Arrested in Fake NYC Parking Placard Crackdown

More than 30 people have been indicted on charges they used forged parking placards to illegally park in New York City.

Prosecutors and Department of Investigation officials say the drivers used the fake placards to get around City parking regulations. Some of the abusers used their luxury vehicles to restrict access to parking for the disabled, creating a potentially dangerous situation.

Prosecutors and DOI officials say the fake placards were even observed right outside the Department of Investigation's headquarters in Lower Manhattan.

The parking probe found that fake parking placards were selling on the black market for as much as $2600. The seized placards displayed various agencies and entities, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The individuals were arrested Tuesday on charges including criminal possession of a forged instrument, offering a false instrument for filing and criminal impersonation.
