Burglar Uses Fire Escapes to Enter Apartments in Queens: Police

Police are searching for the thief who has been climbing up fire escapes in Queens and breaking into people’s apartments.

The man, believed to be in his mid 40s, has burglarized at least five apartments since late December, according to police.

Authorities say the suspect enters apartments via fire escapes in the afternoon or evening. The first burglary was on Dec. 20 and the most recent was on Feb. 8.

He has hit three apartments on Saunders Street in Forest Hills, one on Queens Boulevard and another on Fitchett Street.

The items he has stolen include jewelry, cash and electronics, according to police.
