NYC-Area Army Unit to Train for Afghanistan

The guard says the soldiers are leaving Sunday for Fort Bliss from the Hudson Valley's Stewart Air National Guard Base

A contingent of 450 New York Army National Guard soldiers from the New York City area is headed to Texas to train for missions in Afghanistan.
 
The guard says the soldiers are leaving Sunday for Fort Bliss from the Hudson Valley's Stewart Air National Guard Base.
 
They belong to the 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion. The unit is based in Yonkers, Orangeburg and Peekskill.
 
There are about 1,800 members of the state guard serving in Afghanistan and Kuwait or training to be deployed.
