Attack on Man in West Village Investigated as a Hate Crime

Police released video Monday of a suspect they say shouted anti-gay remarks at a man in the West Village before repeatedly pushing him in what is being investigated as a hate crime. 

The 32-year-old victim was on West Fourth Street on an evening earlier this month when a man started yelling slurs at him, according to police.

The man then started pushing the victim from behind, eventually causing him to fall and hit his head on the window frame of a building, police said.

The attacker fled the scene and the victim was taken by EMS to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was treated for a laceration to his head.

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the attack.

Police said the suspect is in his mid-20s, is about 6 feet tall and weighs around 240 pounds.
