2 Men Face Murder Charges in Death of Hofstra Grad Joey Comunale in NYC

What to Know

  • Joey Comunale, 26, was stabbed to death at a luxury apartment building in Manhattan, likely the night of Nov. 12 or early Nov. 13
  • Authorities recovered Comunale's remains Nov. 16; a criminal complaint says he was stabbed more than a dozen times and burned
  • An attorney for one of the men arrested in his death says charges against his client should be dropped

Two men are finally facing murder charges in the death of a Hofstra graduate from Connecticut who'd attended a party at a Manhattan luxury apartment building.

James Rackover, of Manhattan, and Lawrence Dilione, of Jersey City, New Jersey appeared in court on Wednesday after being indicted for the murder of 26-year-old Joseph Comunale.

Prosecutors say Comunale, of Stamford, was stabbed more than a dozen times in a luxury Manhattan apartment building owned by Rackover after partying with the suspects. His body was found buried in a shallow grave in New Jersey on Nov. 16. Authorities say Rackover and Dilione put him there.

Both deny any wrongdoing. The pair had earlier pleaded not guilty to concealment of a human body, hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence.

A third person, 26-year-old Max Gemma, of Oceanport, New Jersey, has pleaded not guilty to charges of hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence.

Rackover and Dilione were held without bail Wednesday. Gemma was out on bail. They will return to court on June 6.
