A man and a woman died in what appears to be a murder-suicide in Washington Heights, according to police.
Police responded to an assault in progress at 719 W. 180th Street around 11:15 p.m. Monday.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they found a 22-year-old woman who had been shot in the head.
A 26-year-old man nearby also had what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
Both the man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
A semi-automatic firearm was recovered, police said.
An investigation is ongoing and the identities of the man and woman have been withheld pending the notification of their families.
