Mom of Slain Pitcher Fumes at Men Convicted in Son's Shooting Death: ‘Rot in Hell'

Michael Nolan, an Oakland A's prospect, was gunned down outside a Burger King

What to Know

  • Michael Nolan was gunned down in a Yonkers parking lot in September 2015
  • His mother, Donna Nolan, told the men convicted in her son's death to "rot in hell"
  • Two of the suspects were sentenced on Wednesday; the two other suspects will be sentenced in the coming months

A New York mother didn't hold back in court as she raged against the men convicted of taking part in the murder of her son.

"I hope each and every one of them rot in hell for what they did to my family," Donna Nolan said. "Do not ever forget my son's name!"

Nolan fired off the emotional words in Westchester County Court on Wednesday.

Four men in total took part in the deadly drive-by shooting of 23-year-old Michael Nolana, an Oakland A's baseball prospect, at a Burger King in Yonkers last year.

On Wednesday, Judge Barry Warhit sentenced Tejmitra Singh to 11 years in prison and Darren Dawson to nine years in prison for their roles in the shooting.

Donna Nolan scoffed at those who asked if she would ever forgive the men who killed her son.

"When I hear about five families being destroyed, no. Because they still get visits, they get cards, they get care packages. They get all that. They get to see their mothers on Mother's Day, or write a card and say, 'Mom, I love you.' Well you know what, heaven doesn't have visiting hours. I don't get that," Nolan said.

Michael Nolan was playing in the Arizona League Athletics, Oakland's rookie-league team in Phoenix. He was drafted in the 18th round of last year's MLB draft, but was placed on the restricted list for players not currently competing in July 2014.

The admitted gunman Nashaun Hunter is expected to get 25 years to life in prison when he's sentenced in November. The fourth suspect, Garth O'Neil Cole, will also be sentenced next month.

This summer, Hunter pleaded guilty to shooting and killing Nolan in the parking lot of a Central Avenue Burger King. He was charged with murder in Nolan's death earlier this year, but the charges were reduced to manslaughter as part of a plea deal.

Authorities said that the teen was the one who fired a gun six times at Nolan as he stood in the parking lot of the Burger King in Yonkers. Nolan was hit in the head and torso. The shooting came as a retaliation to a beating during a drag race two nights earlier.

Nolan was placed in a medically induced coma after the shooting; he was declared dead on Oct. 9.
