A Suffolk County police officer and a good Samaritan rescued a woman in a wheelchair from a burning home on Long Island.
Helen Morris, 88, was in her home on Old Winkle Point Road in Eatons Neck when a fire broke out.
Second Precinct Police Officer Matthew Funaro responded to the house fire around 4:45 p.m. When he arrived, heavy smoke and flames were burning through the second floor of the home.
Funaro opened a sliding door and found Morris in the first floor living room. He and a good Samaritan who was performing work in the home helped carry her to safety.
Morris was taken to Huntington Hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Arson detectives are investigating the cause of the fire.
