NY Shoppers Get Tax Break on Clothing, Footwear

The 4-percent state sales tax on clothing and footwear under $110 was lifted April 1

Shoppers, rejoice: the New York state tax exemption on clothing and footwear under $110 is back.

The 4-percent state sales tax on clothing and footwear under $110 was lifted April 1. New York City shoppers are already exempt from local sales tax on the same items under $110, and stand to get a total of an 8.5 percent tax break.

The tax exemption program was temporarily stopped last year in order to drive more revenue toward the state's budget gap.
