NY Rabbi Rejects Plea Deal in Sex Abuse Case

A rabbi in Rockland County has rejected a plea agreement and will fight allegations that he sexually abused a 7-year-old boy.

Rabbi Gavriel Bodenheimer is principal of Yeshiva Bais Mikroh in Monsey in Rockland County.

His lawyer tells the Journal News that his defense will include two recorded phone conversations. In them, the rabbi allegedly tells the boy he doesn't know what he's talking about and "should go to the police if he has concerns."

Rockland District Attorney Thomas Zugibe has declined comment.

Bodenheimer faces criminal sexual act and first-degree sex abuse charges. They carry a maximum of 25 years in prison.

Prosecutors say the rabbi allegedly abused the boy at his school office between August 2009 and July 2010.

He's free on $25,000 bail.
