2 Men Stole Holiday Tips Left for Sanitation Workers: Cops

    Suffolk County Police arrested two Long Island men for allegedly stealing holiday tips left out for sanitation workers.

    Someone called police at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday to report that he or she had seen two men take cash-filled envelopes from on top of a garbage can.

    Officers found a vehicle matching the caller's description and arrested the two men inside.

    Michael Heafy, 50, and Christopher Schmidt, 44, were each charged with petit larceny.

    Police are investigating whether or not Heafy and Schmidt were responsible for similar incidents in the area.
