Police say a Long Island man has been arrested for biting and punching his 82-year-old mother after first trying to throw her down a flight of stairs.

Nassau County police say the assault happened Friday in the victim's Hicksville home.

They say 39-year-old Anil Khandpur dragged his mother to the top of the basement stairs and attempted to throw her down.

Police say the victim kicked herself free and her son bit her on the cheek. They say the victim then barricaded herself in a bedroom. Police say she eventually emerged and her son punched her several times in the head.

The mother finally fled and called 911. Khandpur was arrested on charges including attempted murder. It's not clear if he has an attorney who can speak for him.
