Search Continues for Missing Long Island Woman: Police

The search continues for a Long Island woman who has been missing for over a week, police said.

Lilia "Esperanza" Aucapina was reported missing on Oct. 12.

Her family has been distributing fliers and reaching out to the public with the hope of getting a step closer to finding her. They say that they have hope she is alive and safe, Newsday reported.

Aucapina, 40, disappeared after getting into an argument with her estranged husband, 50-year-old Carlos Aucapina, in a parking lot in Wainscott. The two are getting a divorce and Aucapina was arrested for allegedly violating a protection order his wife had obtained against him, according to police.

"Our family's in shock because she's a good woman," Aucapina's brother told Newsday through a Spanish translator Wednesday. "We'd never expected that she wouldn't come home. We have no explanation for it."

Police said that no one has been ruled out as a suspect in Aucapina's disappearance. Authorities have sent out recorded messages to South Fork residents and have scoured Southampton and East Hampton for her.
