Elderly Man Struck, Killed by LIRR Train on Long Island

Officials say a man was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train as it headed to Penn Station.

LIRR spokesman Aaron Donovan tells Newsday it is believed that the elderly man was on the platform at the New Hyde Park Station Sunday afternoon and somehow was struck. His identity has not been released.

He says the train from Huntington was an express that had no scheduled stops in New Hyde Park.

Donovan says service was suspended on the Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson lines for more than two hours.

The investigation is ongoing.
