5 Teens Arrested in String of Car Break-ins at LIRR's Central Islip Station

Five teens were arrested for allegedly damaging and stealing items from cars parked at the Long Island Railroad's Central Islip station.

The teens were arrested early Sunday after someone called 911 to report car break-ins. Police found a BB gun during the arrests and believe it was used by the suspects to break car windows.

Police say the the teens have been targeting cars parked at the station since May 24. Fifteen cars have been reported damaged at the station so far.

Jose Mendoza, 18, and four juveniles were arrested. All were charged with criminal mischief and two, including Mendoza, were charged with petit larceny.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending, police said.
