Driver of SUV Flees After Slamming Into Empty Coach Bus: NY Police

The driver of an SUV was unaccounted for Monday morning after he or she slammed into an empty coach bus in Rockland County, crippling the front of both vehicles and closing a throughway for hours, police said.

The head-on collision happened just before 2:45 a.m. on Route 45, just north of Williams Avenue in Ramapo. The driver of a silver SUV allegedly crashed into an empty coach bus.

Before responding officers arrived, the driver of the smashed SUV left the scene, according to police. Fearing that he or she was seriously injured, police began an extensive search involving multiple agencies in an effort to find the driver, who has yet to be found.

The driver of the bus suffered minor injuries. The impact of the crash smashed the right side of the bus and mangled the front end of the SUV.

Route 45 was closed between Williams Avenue and Tioken Road for hours following the crash. It was reopened Monday morning.

The driver was still missing Monday afternoon, and an investigation into the accident is ongoing, police said.
