Today marks a special date in New York history – the one year anniversary since news broke that Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who once described himself as a “f—ing steamroller,” was flattened by a tawdry call-girl scandal.
On March 10, 2008, the New York Times reported that Spitzer had been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel a month earlier.
Spitzer announced his resignation two days later. He apologized to his family, saying he "failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself." With his wife by his side, Spitzer stepped down from the highest post in the state, elevating Gov. David Paterson to the rank.
His resignation completed a fast and spectacular downfall for the former attorney general, who had racked up a lot of enemies as he rose to prominence probing financial crime – earning him the nickname the “Sheriff of Wall Street.”
What followed was the feverish speculation about the real idenity of his $4300 call-girl named "Kristen." In the end, she turned out to be Ashley Dupre, a 22-year-old fame-seeking gal from New Jersey.
In the past year, Dupre sat down with Diane Sawyer, turned down an offer from Hustler, and tried unsuccessfully to score a record contract.
And the "Luv Gov"? He’s a columnist for Slate.com. But, a local blog reported that he might not be too keen on his new role.

At a holidy party back in December, a journalist asked Spitzer how he was enjoying life as a columnist.
"It sucks," he said with a grin. "I used to be governor of New York."
