NJ Woman Killed by Train after Falling on Tracks: Officials

A New Jersey woman was killed Saturday when she struck by a train at at a northern New Jersey train station. authorities said.

The victim, identified as Sherylynn Barta, 47, of Medham, accidentally fell onto the tracks at about 2 p.m. in Morristown just as a NJ Transit train approached the station, investigators said.

Officials say the train's engineer saw Barta stumble from the platform, sounded the horn and applied the train's emergency brake, but could not stop in time. The eastbound train was not taking passengers at the time and was headed to a rail yard.

It's not clear what caused Barta to fall, investigators said.
