Train service on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail was temporarily suspended Tuesday morning, streets were closed and some residents lost water, after a water main broke in Jersey City ahead of the morning rush.
The 12-inch main erupted at the corner of Washington and Essex streets before dawn, shutting down those streets to traffic. Grand Street was also affected by the break.
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail service was suspended in both directions at Essex Street, between Marin Boulevard and Exchange Place stations.
Some people had no water or water pressure in parts of Jersey City Tuesday morning as a result of the break, Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.
SUEZ Water said in a statement Tuesday that emergency crews had begun repairs on the water main. The company said that residents who lost water pressure should expect it back shortly.
Just days ago, SUEZ sent out a message that it was doing maintanence work for two weeks and that people should expect low water pressure in the area.
