Driver Killed When Trucks Crash on NJ Turnpike

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. Monday in a northbound lane near Exit 9 in East Brunswick

State police say a dump truck driver was killed when his vehicle and a tractor-trailer collided on the New Jersey Turnpike, sparking a large fire that caused major travel delays in the area.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. Monday in a northbound lane near Exit 9 in East Brunswick. The dump truck driver, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash occurred.

No other injuries were reported in the crash, which shut down a stretch of the highway for several hours. Traffic was diverted to the turnpike's inner roadway, and backups of several miles were being reported late Monday afternoon.
