New Jersey Transit said train riders can expect a normal morning rush Monday after Amtrak crews worked overnight to fix overhead wire problems in both the Hudson River tunnels that plagued NJT over the weekend.
However multiple trains had delays of up to 30 minutes at rushhour Monday morning thanks to operational issues.
NJ Transit revealed a contingency plan late Sunday just in case repairs to the two tunnels weren't finished in time for the Monday morning commute. Right around 5:30 those repairs were completed, NJT said. But the commute was still snagged by operational issues and trees on tracks. At 7:30 a.m. all NJ Transit eastbound trains from Jersey Ave. had up to 30 minute delays and the North Jersey Coast Line service had up to 30 minute delays in both directions due to a tree on the tracks ar Manasquan.
NJT said it would implement its contingency plan at 6 a.m. if Amtrak hadn't completed the work on time. There were 45 minute delays on all trains in and out of New York Penn until the repairs were finished.

A spokeswoman for NJ Transit said that Amtrak overhead wires dislodged around 11:45 p.m., causing a metal bracket above the train to fall onto a train car. Around 700 passengers on the train were transferred to a rescue train.
