Guns, Homemade Explosives Found in New Jersey Sex Offender's House: Police

A convicted sex offender was arrested Saturday night after allegedly threatening his girlfriend and two adult daughters at his New Jersey home, where police say they also found improvised explosives.

Robert Sunday, 51, was booked on aggravated assault, weapons and explosive charges after Saddle Brook police say they got a call from his girlfriend Saturday night about being threatened.

When officers arrived, they allegedly found what appeared to be a homemade pipe bomb, a hand grenade, six long guns and three handguns, along with boxes of ammunition and gun magazines, according to police.

Nearby homes were evacuated while a bomb squad worked to remove the explosives from the home, police say.

Sunday, who was convicted of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child in 1993, is being held on $100,000 bond, police say.

According to the New Jersey sex offender database, he gained access to juvenile victims through friends and acquaintances.

It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
