New Jersey Man Collected Dead Woman's Checks: Prosecutors

Prosecutors say a northern New Jersey man improperly collected and cashed benefit checks intended for a recently deceased woman with whom he had lived during the last year.

Union County prosecutors say 54-year-old Rickie "Yoggi" Horvath is charged with four counts of theft and one count of insurance fraud. Bail was set at $75,000 for the Belleville man, and it wasn't known Monday if he has retained an attorney.

The investigation began earlier this year after a life insurance company contacted the state's Insurance Fraud Prosecutor.

Officials say the subsequent probe revealed that Horvath fraudulently collected $14,000 from the insurer and roughly $5,000 from the Social Security Administration by making misrepresentations to both organizations.
