New Jersey Man Busted for Machete, Burglary Spree: Police

Authorities say they arrested a northern New Jersey man and charged him with possession of an 18-inch steel machete as well as five burglaries of local businesses.

The Record reports that Sunday Sharod Benjamin, of Teaneck, was arrested after Fort Lee police got a call a man was seen along Route 4 with a handgun.

Police say Benjamin took a "fighting stance" and refused to remove his hands from his pockets. Police secured Benjamin's arms. He was frisked and the machete was found.

Benjamin is also charged with burglary in the 2000 Bigler St. area from Oct. 19 to Oct. 26. Details on what was stolen weren't available.

He's being held in Bergen County Jail in lieu of $50,000.

It's unclear whether he has an attorney.
